A survey by the newspaper WELT has determined which cities want to become model regions for the legal sale of cannabis. Two cities have applied so far, and a total of 11 cities are interested.
Munich has it difficult
It is likely to be much more difficult for the second city that has already submitted an application: München. While the red-green coalition at Marienplatz would like to become a model region, the CSU-led state government is fighting with all means against legalization in the Free State. Bavaria’s Prime Minister Söder called the legalization a mistake and is currently examining legal steps to prevent Bavarian municipalities from participating in the pilot project.

Other cities that, when asked by the world, said they would be happy to take part in the trial are Bremen, Hanover, Bonn, Tübingen, Leipzig and Schwerin. The cities of Darmstadt, Münster and Wiesbaden had already passed corresponding resolutions in the past, but had not yet reacted to Lauterbach’s current legislative project.
