In August, a woman and a man grapple with a painting by Nicolas Poussin at the Städel in Frankfurt. Now the museum presents them with the bill.

Frankfurt – The Städel is seeking compensation of 7,000 euros from two “latest generation” climate activists. Both had glued themselves to a picture frame in August.

Actions by the “latest generation”, which campaigns radically for climate protection, are also very popular in midsummer Frankfurt already known. But not in museums. The activists mainly blocked the main roads by sitting on the road and sticking their hands to the asphalt with superglue.

Frankfurt: the Städel Museum seeks compensation and files a criminal complaint

On 24 August, a woman and a man of the “latest generation” visited the Städel. With one hand each, they glued themselves to the frame of Nicolas Poussin’s painting “Stormy landscape with Pyramus and Thisbe”. The work is symbolic of the destructive course of current politics, the group said.

Unlike a protest in Dresden’s Alte Meister gallery the day before, the action in Frankfurt had almost no impact on the museum’s operations. The Städel didn’t have to close because of the two activists. The damage to the gilded frame, now restored, was quite substantial, 7,000 euros. The polluter should pay for this, and the Städel has also filed a criminal complaint. (George Leppert)

Police union calls for pretrial detention against climate activists According to Carla Rochel, 21 of the “latest generation” are already locked up in Bavaria. He has government duties.
