Frankfurt Marathon and Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Dortmund: Traffic Tips and Updates

If the Frankfurt Marathon takes place on Sunday and Frankfurter Eintracht plays against Borussia Dortmund in the Waldstadion at the same time, the transport companies advise planning more time.

Update, October 27th: The Frankfurt Marathon begins at 10 a.m. with the starting signal for the first racing field. This is followed by the relay marathon at 10:35 a.m. and the mini marathon at 10:55 a.m. The start for all participants is in the Friedrich-Ebert facility. The destination is the Frankfurt Festival Hall on the exhibition grounds. The Frankfurt police want to be present in the city area at an early stage.

From 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., areas in Sachsenhausen, Niederrad, Goldstein, Schwanheim, Nied, Höchst, Gallus and the city center will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic. The police announced in advance that there could be significant traffic disruptions, meaning that road users would have to plan for longer journey times and detours. Visitors to the Bundesliga game between Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund would also have to be prepared for traffic disruptions around the Waldstadion.

Frankfurt Marathon: Restrictions on local transport

On Sunday, October 29th, buses and trains will give way to the Frankfurt Marathon. The starting shot goes off at 10 a.m. at the festival hall, where the finish is at 5 p.m. The marathon route, which runs on both sides of the Main between Frankfurt city center and Höchst, touches the city’s bus and tram network in many places, so that from around 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. numerous tram and bus lines are affected by interruptions or diversions.

Reach your destination despite the partial closure of the S-Bahn tunnel

Due to the closure of the S-Bahn route between Louisa and Ostendstraße, the S-Bahn S3, S4, S5 and S6 only offer a limited alternative. Only the S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S8 and S9 run between the main station and Ostendstraße.

The S3 and S4 lines only run between Rödelheim and the main train station, the S3 line also runs between Louisa and Darmstadt main station. Further construction work with replacement bus services is taking place between Eschborn and Rödelheim. The S5 line commutes between Friedrichsdorf and the main train station. The S6 line runs between Friedberg and the main train station, but does not stop at the trade fair or at the Galluswarte.

Subways: More space and faster service

If you want to get along smoothly this Sunday, RMV and traffiQ recommend taking the subway, which can travel unhindered. The subway lines U1 to U4 and U6 to U8 are being strengthened so that more space is available. The U4 is also increasing its frequency: it runs between Bockenheimer Warte and Seckbacher Landstrasse every five minutes from around 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tram lines 11 and 16 also run more frequently.

Please keep us updated!
traffiQ and RMV recommend finding out about the best connections in advance. They can be accessed via the timetable information on rmv-frankfurt.de, the RMV service telephone on 069 / 24 24 80 24 or the RMVgo app.

Info
For information about closures and diversions of car traffic, the citizens’ hotline can be reached on 069 / 75 75 41 700 and 069 / 75 75 41 701. Due to the Frankfurter Eintracht football game taking place in the Waldstadion in the afternoon, busses and trains are to be expected to be fuller. traffiQ and RMV ask passengers to allow more time accordingly.
