Around 1.39 billion euros are to flow into the rail network and train stations in Hesse, as the company announced on Thursday in Frankfurt.
140 kilometers of tracks, more than 170 points, 14 bridges and 60 stops and stations are on the list. The railway spoke of a record amount. Investments totaling 900 million euros were announced last year.
One of the major projects is the ongoing redesign of the B-level of Frankfurt Central Station, which is to become lighter and friendlier by 2024. New shopping and dining options are planned.
The railway announced that investments will also be made in Hanau’s main train station and in smaller stations such as Borken, Riedstadt-Goddelau and Schlüchtern.

On the high-speed line Hanover-Würzburg between Kassel and Göttingen tracks, switches and sleepers are to be replaced from April. Another major project, the Homburger Damm, is about to be completed; an additional track is intended to remove a bottleneck at the entrance and exit to Frankfurt Central Station. Construction work, which began in 2017, should be completed by the end of the year.
The 23-kilometer line between Hanau and Gelnhausen is to be four-track and equipped with new technology. In Hanau, a more than 100-year-old railway bridge is being demolished and a new one is being built.
The effects of the construction project on rail traffic should be kept as low as possible, explained the railroad.
