The Frankfurt Galaxy win in the European League of Football at the Hamburg Sea Devil 23:13, it is the tenth success in a row – and one with consequences
The Frankfurt Galaxy footballers can plan another home game this summer. The Hessians, who made it into the playoffs of the European League of Football (ELF) last weekend by beating the Milano Seamen, continued their winning streak on Sunday. At the Hamburg Sea Devils, a direct competitor in the Western Conference, the Men in Purple celebrated a 23:13 (20:7) win and thus the tenth triumph in a row.
In doing so, they earned the role of host at the so-called Wildcard Weekend in just under two weeks, when they will most likely be expecting the second best pursuer of all three seasons in the stadium on Bornheimer Hang. This means additional income for the Frankfurt ELF franchise.
The game in the final opponent of 2021 did not start well for the premiere champion at the time. Because it was the Seeteufel who took the lead after five minutes with a first touchdown and an extra point. But just before the end of the first quarter, Galaxy quarterback Jakeb Sullivan passed the egg 16 yards to receiver Nico Strahmann, and the two secured their team’s first six points. Ryan Rimmler’s subsequent kick was ruled good.
Rimmler accurate
For a long time, the second quarter was characterized by ball losses and interruptions in play. Then the guests were able to add just under two minutes before the end. Kicker Ryan Rimmler not only showed his skills with the shot attempt afterwards, but also a little later with a field goal, in which the game device flew over the bar more than 30 yards.
Head coach Thomas Kösling’s team went into the dressing room at the break with a comfortable, but still far from reliable lead and came out well again. The game was again difficult to flow, but Rimmler was able to prove his skills again in the final phase of the period. The distance to be covered this time was 38 yards, and again the shooter, who practiced diligently between his missions, hit his target between the posts.
Rimmler should remain the match winner for the Galaxy and scored again in the final section. But almost out of nowhere, the hosts recorded another touchdown. But they couldn’t turn the game.
At the end of the main round, the Galaxy, as the second in the Western Conference, expects the leader Rhein Fire from Düsseldorf on September 3 at 3:25 p.m., who is still unbeaten after his 43:17 win at the Swiss representative Helvetic Guards on Sunday. More than 7500 spectators are expected in the FSV stadium for the duel.
