Topping-out ceremony for the “House by the Lake” at Bügelsee in Ben-Gurion-Ring

01.08.2024, 14:04 Clock

On Wednesday, August 7th, at 3 p.m., the topping-out ceremony for the new neighborhood meeting place “Haus am See” will take place with the head of the planning and housing department, Marcus Gwechenberger. The neighborhood meeting place is currently being built in a timber frame construction in the middle of the green belt on Ben-Gurion-Ring, directly on the so-called Bügelsee.

“The residents of Ben Gurion Ring were lacking a central and public meeting place. With the ‘House by the Lake’ we are now creating a meeting point for young and old. Today we are celebrating the topping-out ceremony, the opening is to take place before the autumn holidays,” says a delighted city councillor Gwechenberger. The temporary building, made of lightweight construction, will initially be placed in the middle of the meadow by the Bügelsee in the green belt for a few years. Afterwards, a new building will be built in the immediate vicinity on a new neighborhood square that is to be redesigned, which will serve as a central meeting place for the Bügel with catering options and public toilets.

The temporary building is intended to serve as a laboratory for establishing neighborhood engagement. The simple but functional building was designed and planned according to plans by students from the TU Darmstadt. The organization and revitalization of the building is being handled by the district management at Bügel. In a survey of the neighborhood’s residents, the obvious name “Haus am See” was chosen as the favorite. On June 26 and July 11, residents worked with the district management to build wooden furniture for the “Haus am See” based on plans from the TU Darmstadt.

Anyone interested in using the new neighborhood meeting place on a regular basis can now contact the neighborhood office. A wide variety of uses are possible. The neighborhood meeting place, which currently takes place every Wednesday in the neighborhood office, will move to the “Haus am See” once it is completed.
