For the first time there will be a Pride Month in Frankfurt this year. A series of action days, rallies, workshops and film screenings on the subject of queer life are planned from Friday, June 16th until Christoper Street Day (July 13th to 16th).

“I am very pleased that the anti-discrimination department in my department and the AmkA have managed to put together a diverse and attractive program for the premiere of Pride Month,” says Mayor and Head of Diversity Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg. She got the idea for Pride Month from a visit to the twin city of Toronto.

Pride Month is now celebrated in many cities around the world, mostly in June. This month, the queer community is celebrating in a variety of ways. She stands up for her rights and celebrates her freedom as an LGTBQI* community.

Frankfurt’s Pride Month 2023 will kick off with the “Diversity without violence” days of action on Friday, June 16th and Saturday, June 17th, around the Rainbow Circle/Alte Gasse. The festival is organized by the anti-discrimination department, the queer community and the Frankfurt police. As Eskandari-Grünberg says, “a street festival with a varied stage program and rallies should be opposed to violence against queer people”. As a kick-off for Pride Month, the mayor will take a tour of the queer district with police chief Stefan Müller.

The days of action also include a city tour on the history of lesbians, gays and queer people, a presentation of queer clubs, a drag show with Electra Pain, Vanessa P., Christy Moon & special guests, a panel discussion on the topic “What to do against anti-queer people Violence?”, hands-on activities, performances and a party at the end.

Other highlights of Pride Month include an event on being trans in a family context on Thursday, June 29th, a reading from the book “untenrum” in the children’s and youth library on July 4th, the first information and networking meeting for queer groups and Diversity AGs of the Frankfurt schools on July 12th and a Meet&Talk on the topic “LSBTIQ and Faith” on July 14th.
