The legalization of cannabis is a hot topic these days. The city of Frankfurt has now surveyed its citizens in a representative study on the subject.

Frankfurt – On Saturday, June 24th, the Frankfurt drug department will present the results of a city-wide survey on the subject of cannabis. The city of Frankfurt announced this on Monday.

The representative study aimed, among other things, at the attitude of the respondents to the legalization of cannabis and to individual aspects of it. Their personal consumption in the event of legalization was also a topic of the survey.

Cannabis legalization: Planned participation of Frankfurt as a model region together with Offenbach

Frankfurt had already announced in April that it wanted to apply together with Offenbach as a model region for the regulated sale of cannabis. “Especially against this background, there is a need for empirically verified knowledge for decisions at the municipal level,” said the Frankfurt health department head Stefan Majer. “Of course, there are still many unanswered questions about the specific design.”

In April, Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) and Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir (Greens) presented the cornerstones of a two-pillar model for the federal government’s cannabis policy. The first pillar is intended to enable self-cultivation and cultivation in non-profit associations. The second pillar provides for a pilot project: In selected regions, companies should also be able to produce and sell cannabis under certain conditions. The experiment is designed for five years under scientific supervision. A concrete draft law for this should follow after the summer break.

At least eleven German cities open to applications as a cannabis model region

According to a newspaper report Welt at least eleven German cities were open to applying as a cannabis model region in May. In addition to Frankfurt and Offenbach, Bremen, Hanover, Bonn, Leipzig and Munich, among others, also expressed a general interest in applying.
