Frankfurt – The literary world meets in Frankfurt for the book fair.
From October 16th to 20th, thousands of publishers, authors, booksellers, artists, literary agents, software and multimedia providers from 100 countries will be guests in Frankfurt. And some celebrities have also been announced.
Thomas Gottschalk, Max Mutzke and comedian Bülent Ceylan are supposed to come to the 76th book fair in Frankfurt. Also there: Peter Maffay, crime author Arno Strobel, and the best-selling author Charlotte Link, Iny Lorentz, Bärbel Schäfer, Frank Schätzing, Elif Shafak and Saša Stanišić.
A large crowd is expected again. Last year, 215,000 visitors were counted at the book fair. The trade fair has long since included not only print, but also digital media of all kinds.
This is what will be offered at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2024
Around 4,000 publishers present their new releases – novels, non-fiction books, poetry, comics, children’s books. Culture and commerce: The focus of the knives around literature is the so-called B2B business between companies – there is a separate agent center with more than 500 seats for trading in book licenses and rights.
There is also a center for digital games, plenty of space for the audio segment with podcasts or a “silent disco” with audio books.
The book fair is open to the private public from Friday at 2 p.m. 1000 authors will read and sign books on 15 stages.
Political celebrities shouldn’t be missing either: the new Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli (49) is opening the book fair for the host country Italy (represented by 90 authors), while Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth (69, Green Party) is coming from Berlin.
„Meet the Author“
It’s a new area where fans can meet authors at the fair. It’s called “Meet the Author” and is located in the Agora at the Open Stage. While you need (free) tickets for some book signings from publishers, here the rule is: just get in line. Authors such as Marie Niehoff, Paul Maar, Julia Dippel, Carolin Wahl, Charlotte Link and Judith Rakers are on site on certain dates.
The book fair is always open from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (Sunday 5:30 p.m.).

Who will win the German Book Prize 2024?
The German Book Prize is traditionally presented on the Monday before the start of the trade fair – on October 14th. The winner only finds out about his luck in the evening.
Six novelists are nominated: Martina Hefter (“Hey good morning, how are you?”), Maren Kames (“Hasenprose”), Clemens Meyer (“The Projectors”), Ronya Othmann (“Seventy-Four”), Markus Thielemann (“Thunder rolls from the north”) and Iris Wolff (“Clearings”).
Historian receives peace prize
One of the highlights is the awarding of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in the Paulskirche (Sunday, October 20th, 10:45 a.m.). The Board of Trustees has elected the Polish-American historian and journalist Anne Applebaum as the 2024 Peace Prize winner. She is considered an expert on Eastern European history and warned early on against Vladimir Putin’s violent expansionist policies.
160 authors at the reading festival for the 2024 book fair

The crime film stars Volker Klüpfel/Michael Kobr (Commissioner Kluftinger), Olga Grjasnowa, Dora Heldt, Eva Illouz and Clemens Meyer have been announced. They read in the German National Library, the Römerhallen and the Volksbühne, among others.
