Frankfurt Airport: Does the new night flight route also affect Flörsheim?

The flight route changes will not lead to more aircraft noise in Flörsheim, says Mayor Bernd Blisch. The application deadline for compensation ends soon.

Flörsheim – In addition to all the hardships and burdens, the coronavirus crisis in Flörsheim also has a pleasant side effect. In the city, which is heavily polluted by aircraft noise, it has become quieter during the corona pandemic. Due to the low volume of travel, aircraft are currently rarely seen in the sky. However, this condition will not last forever. For all residents affected by aircraft noise, it therefore makes sense to keep an eye on the time after the coronavirus crisis. The aircraft noise commission met just this week. Among other things, it was about the adjustment of flight routes at Frankfurt Airport.

The state of Hesse and the German air traffic control have undertaken to reorganize flights between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. The background to this are considerations for reducing noise and saving fuel. What does this mean for Flörsheim?

Due to changes, noise from Frankfurt Airport mainly affects Rüsselsheim, Mainz and Darmstadt

Although it sounds as if the Mainstadt Flörsheim could be affected, the plans have no effect, according to Mayor Bernd Blisch (CDU). “That only affects the other side of the Main”, explains the head of administration, who took part in the virtual meeting of the aircraft noise commission. The adjustments are aimed at cities such as Rüsselsheim, Mainz and Darmstadt. He also does not assume that Flörsheim will feel negative effects from changing flight routes to and from Frankfurt Airport, says Blisch.

Another topic that residents of Flörsheim should not ignore in view of the current decline in aircraft noise is the application for passive noise protection. Several deadlines expire by the end of the year. Owners of residential properties in day protection zone 1 are entitled to protection for all common rooms. Noise protection measures for bedrooms are checked in the night protection zone. The application deadline at the Darmstadt Regional Council ends on October 12th.

Frankfurt Airport operator has so far compensated 12,000 households in Flörsheim

So far, the operator of Frankfurt Airport Fraport has already paid 24.6 million euros to around 8,000 households. The application deadline for compensation due to the limited usability of outdoor areas also ends on October 12th. In this area, Fraport paid around 30.4 million euros for compensation for 12,000 households, which is calculated separately.

There is also a pot with state funds: around 17,000 households can call up payments from the regional fund for the implementation of structural noise protection measures. Those affected are entitled to up to 4,350 euros on proof. The application deadline for the fund is December 31st. The Darmstadt Regional Council has so far issued notifications of grants amounting to 39.7 million euros.

Residents in Flörsheim must quickly submit applications for protection against aircraft noise from Frankfurt Airport

Anyone who has not yet submitted their application for measures to protect against noise at Frankfurt Airport should do so as soon as possible. The final invoices for all structural measures must also be available by the end of the application period at the latest. Those affected can find out whether a property is in the appropriate zone for protective measures on the website of the Darmstadt Regional Council. (sas)

Many aircraft on the approach route at Frankfurt Airport are traveling far too low. The German air traffic control has an explanation for this, but not everyone is satisfied.
