This year the legendary horror show around Halloween will take place for the last time at Frankenstein Castle – the event will move to Königstein night.
Scary fans then have to go to the Taunus, where the “Frankenstein Halloween” event will take place at the famous Königstein Castle from 2024.
Last year at Frankenstein Castle
From October 20th to November 4th, the legendary Halloween festival will take place in southern Hesse for the last time before the popular castle in Mühltal near Darmstadt closes its doors for renovations. The future of the horror festival was discussed for a long time, especially last year there was an intensive search for a new location – this is what Benjamin Metz from “Frankenstein Halloween” explains to our reporter.
Now it is clear: the castle will permanently move to a new location: the famous “Königstein Castle” in the Taunus.
Mega-Halloween Event
For four decades, the Halloween party at Frankenstein Castle thrilled tens of thousands of fans from all over the world every autumn with the horror at Frankenstein Castle. Once initiated by American GIs, the horror spectacle that originally started as a “ghost festival” developed over the years dem Halloween-Event in Deutschland.
Even American breakfast television reports on the spectacle and history surrounding the castle and the famous Frankenstein monster.
Frankenstein Castle needs to be renovated
But since last year, the future of “Frankenstein Halloween” has been uncertain. Since the announcement of the extensive renovation measures by the Hesse State Construction and Real Estate Office at Frankenstein Castle, castle tenant and “Halloween” organizer Ralph Eberhardt had been looking for options for continuation.
Successor castle in the Taunus
Now the scary successor from 2024 has been determined: Königstein Castle in the Taunus. Frankenstein Castle will then be renovated for several years – but beyond that, Königstein Castle should be and remain the permanent solution for “Frankenstein Halloween”. According to the organizers, there are also some advantages there – including the size of the castle, which allows for more guests and even more spectacular scenery.
Königstein’s mayor speaks of a new scary home
Königstein’s mayor Leonhard Helm: “The oldest visible remains of the wall date back to before 1215, it is one of the largest castle ruins in Germany and offers optimal conditions for the continuation of the “Halloween” game operations. The Königstein Castle is guaranteed to grow in horror fans’ hearts within a very short time as the new home of “Frankenstein Halloween.”
