Frank Lampard talks about the resignation at Chelsea and his hopes for the future.
It would not be for Lampard in Chelsea who earlier this season ended up getting fired by club owner Roman Abramovich.
As an unemployed man, he has seen his successor Thomas Tuchel take Chelsea to both the Champions League final, the FA Cup final and up to a top four position in the league.
Almost four months after he was fired, Lampard has this week spoken to some English media.
The former midfield star tells the Daily Mail that it was demanding to lose his job.
– It goes beyond your pride. There is no doubt about it. It’s human. But if you reflect on it, then it is naive to think that it should be different for me than what it has been for other managers, says Lampard.
Excited about how people would react
The former English national team star explains that he was excited about how he would be received by Chelsea fans in the time afterwards.
– The biggest thing for me is that I live in Chelsea, close to the stadium, and see Chelsea fans all the time. So you wonder what the reaction from them will be when you have lost your job. Will they be happy with what you did at the club or not, Lampard wonders.
However, he was quickly confirmed that the relationship with Chelsea fans is still good.
– It made me understand even more the bond I have with them after my time as a player, but also that they saw what I worked for in the first season and until I left the club in season two. I had a vision and worked for it because I care about the club, Lampard explains to The Telegraph.
Rodgers gives hope
Although it ended with the dismissal of Chelsea for Lampard, he still looks positively on the future and his own managerial career.
In recent months, he has also received a lot of support in the form of messages from other football coaches.
One of those who has made contact is Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers.
Lampard explains that the Northern Irishman’s career gives him hope for the future as he sees some similarities.
After impressing with Swansea, Rodgers got to try his hand as Liverpool manager. However, Nordiren ended up being fired on Merseyside, but has subsequently had success with both Celtic and Leicester.
– I actually talked to Brendan about a month after I left Chelsea. He came up with some good words of wisdom because our path has been quite similar.
– I think Brendan is a good example. He went to Celtic, had enormous success there and what he has achieved with Leicester has been very clear. So he excels, says Lampard.
Now the Englishman hopes to be able to fight back in a similar way, but he is clear that he is not having a bad time.
– I do not stress, but if the right opportunity should arise, then I will work again. It’s something I love to do, I love being a manager, more than I actually thought, says Lampard.
