– Thousands of people die in traffic every year. The police in Middle Franconia are now going public with a particularly drastic video.
These are shots that are difficult to bear: at a speed of around 299 kilometers per hour, a motorcyclist hits the rear of a car with full force after braking hard. The Middle Franconia police headquarters posted the video on Tuesday (November 28th, 2023). As the officials further explain in the text, the drastic recordings date back to 2020. On that day, a biker was traveling on the A9 with his bike. The motorcyclist started from the hard shoulder, then moved to the left lane and from there sped away at around 299 kilometers per hour in the left lane.
Another road user was driving his car in the middle lane at the time. The vehicle’s speedometer showed around 120 kilometers per hour at the time. Because he wanted to overtake a tractor-trailer in front of him, the driver swerved to the left. This is where the accident occurred: The motorcyclist suddenly had to brake hard – at that moment the biker was still traveling at around 190 kilometers per hour.
The machine then crashed into the rear of the car with full force. The biker was thrown from his machine and then remained seriously injured on the center guardrail. The motorcycle was even thrown across the middle lane and then touched the guardrail. It’s hard to believe, but: The biker was seriously injured, but in the end survived the accident almost like a miracle.
The emergency services were able to find and secure the biker’s GoPro at the scene of the accident. The video recording was then carefully evaluated by experts. In the end, some people may be asking themselves the question: Why exactly are the police in Franconia going public with these recordings? Towards the end of the post there is a clear and important answer: “We would like to remind everyone how important it is to always behave responsibly and proactively in traffic,” the officers end the video on social networks.
This means that every road user decides for themselves how fast they drive. Many speeding accidents are therefore avoidable. “Drive responsibly and stick to the prescribed maximum speed or adapt your speed to the road and visibility conditions,” the Middle Franconia police headquarters tells users.
