This Wednesday, January 17, Françoise Hardy celebrates her 80th birthday. The singer has been fighting a tough battle against the disease for several years. In 2004, cancer of the lymphatic system was discovered. It was only ten years later that she announced her remission before health concerns caught up with her in 2019 with pharyngeal cancer. Today, the singer suffers from Malt-type lymphoma which affects her mucous membranes.

In the columns of the newspaper The Parisian, her son, Thomas Dutronc, gives her news: “She is not dying and does not want to die,” he assures. He emphasizes: “My mother is a warrior who has incredible strength. She is in her right mind and still sees people. »

In an interview with Paris Match, Françoise Hardy opened up about her ordeal: “ Since my last and recent radiotherapy, I have been doing poorly because my right eye sees everything very blurry and is painful. My nostril on the same side is blocked all the time. The mouth and back of the throat are even drier. It’s a nightmare. »

When questioned about the role of the mind, she confides: “ Illness destroys the mind. With age, after rays that hit the head, which was the case with my 55 radiotherapies, we lose our memory of too many things and the lack of balance reduces our ability to move as much as possible. ” His wish ? “ Leave soon and quickly, without too many challenges, such as the impossibility of breathing. »

Françoise Hardy has spoken on several occasions about the right to die with dignity.
