ROME. The woman in the Kiss at the Hotel de Ville, the famous photo by Robert Doisneau, taken in 1950 in Paris, will remain forever. Francoise Bornet died at the age of 93, reports the newspaper Le Parisien, specifying that her disappearance dates back to December 25, while the woman was in Normandy.
He was twenty years old when he posed with his partner in front of Doisneau’s lens. The reportage was commissioned by Life magazine to describe the effects of the post-World War II period. «He told us “I’m Robert Doisneau, I think you’re charming, would you agree to kiss in front of my camera?”», Françoise had confided. The photo became iconic in the 1980s. Bornet then also made some films in secondary roles.
In 1993, several couples sued Doisneau, claiming they were the one in the photo. But Doisneau had confirmed that the model was indeed Bornet, even if it was difficult to recognize her in the image. From her trial the woman did not get a single euro, however in 2005 she decided to sell the original copy of her, which had been offered to her by Doisneau himself, for 185 thousand euros.
