The new editor-in-chief of La Liberté is called François Mauron. Current head of the regional section of the Friborg daily, the 52-year-old journalist will take up his post on December 1, replacing Serge Gumy, future director of the Saint-Paul Group.

“I am proud of the trust placed in me, proud of the newspaper,” François Mauron told Keystone-ATS. The future editor-in-chief, who has worked at La Liberté for ten years, intends to continue to bet on quality recognized far and wide in the Friborg title and give impetus on two axes.

First of all for the coverage of the regions with a view to bringing together the group’s four titles (La Liberté, La Gruyère, La Broye Hebdo and Le Messager), whose editorial staff will be maintained on three sites (Friborg, Bulle and Payerne) . Then for the project to make the web more efficient in the context of digitization.

Solid luggage

François Mauron was chosen for his journalistic qualities, his knowledge of cantonal terrain and the importance of his networks in political and economic circles, according to a press release published on Friday. He can also boast a solid background in team management at La Liberté.

After a PR internship at the Sillon Romand, which has since become Terre et Nature, François Mauron worked at Coopération et au Temps, as a correspondent in Friborg. He then took part in the launch of La Télé, as head of the Friborg office, before joining La Liberté in 2011 as an economic journalist first.

The citizen of Villars-sur-Glâne has been at the head of the regional section since 2012. As soon as he takes office, he will participate in “discussions on future collaborations between the titles of the Saint-Paul Group”. “It will also have to continue and accelerate the digital transition of La Liberté,” said the press release.

Serge Gumy editor

Serge Gumy, 51, will take over the management of the Saint-Paul Group on December 1, replacing Thierry Mauron, who will retire after ten years in office. A former PR intern at La Liberté, on Radio Suisse Romande and 24Heures, he became its editor in 2015.

Serge Gumy will head the future single publishing company which will eventually bring together, in addition to advertising, marketing and distribution services, all of the group’s titles. On the employment front, it is likely that over time the overall number of newspapers will decrease, La Liberté said in early September.

The appointment of François Mauron is accompanied by that of Romain Glasson as marketing director of the new company Saint-Paul Médias SA. Mr. Glasson will lead the consolidation of advertising management and reader marketing activities.
