François Hollande, former president of France, marries actress Julie Gayet | People

François Hollande, who was president of France between 2012 and 2017, and the actress, also French, Julie Gayet have married after eight and a half years of relationship. The 67-year-old politician and the 50-year-old interpreter were married last Saturday, June 4, the day after her birthday, in the town of Tulle, in the center of the country, where the socialist politician was mayor from 2001 to 2008.

This has been revealed by the mayor of the town, Bernard Combes, with an image of the bride and groom -sitting back to back- that he has hung on your instagram profile. “Celebrating a wedding is always a unique moment for me. I love uniting those who love each other. On Saturday June 4, it was François and Julie who got married in Tulle, in the town they love. I joined them with infinite happiness and emotion ”, Combes, a friend of the couple, has written, along with the photograph. It is unknown who the witnesses were or if their respective children attended the link.

The couple, for the moment, has not confirmed the link, which was initially announced by the local newspaper The mountain —which has obtained a couple of photographs of the bride and groom – and which has been quickly echoed by the rest of the French press, such as Paris Match. For Hollande this is her first marriage, while for Gayet it is the second, since she was married to the Argentine director and screenwriter Santiago Amigorena between 2000 and 2006

Hollande and Gayet have no children together, but they share six. Gayet had two with Amigorena, called Tadeo and Ezéchiel, while the former French president has four, Thomas, Clémence, Julien and Flora, with fellow socialist leader Ségolène Royal, with whom he had a long relationship from the 1970s to 2007. In fact, she was on the verge of becoming the country’s leader at that very moment, and later became part of her ex-partner’s cabinet as Minister of Ecology. Both maintained and maintain a cordial relationship for the good of their work and their children.

Shortly after his breakup with Royal, Hollande began dating journalist Valerie Trierweiler. The couple had a relationship until the beginning of 2014 and their separation was a scandal in France, since Hollande was still at the Elysée at the time when it became known that he had another relationship, precisely with Gayet. The first reports of the possible romance raised Hollande’s anger, and she filed a complaint on March 18, 2013 with the Paris prosecutor’s office to try to identify the authors of the rumor that linked her to Hollande.

But the French press began to take pictures of both and there was no way to hide the obvious. Finally, the president had to make his break with Trierweiler public. The day the report on the president’s alleged relationship with Gayet was published, the journalist ended up being admitted to a Paris hospital, where Hollande went to visit her after a week had already passed. Nine months later, Trierweiler published a book about his time at the Elysée Palace that became a bestseller, even unseating him on the lists. Fifty Shades of Grey.

That fleeting romance that the public knew from some photographs in which, on a motorcycle, Hollande tried to arrive incognito at Gayet’s Parisian apartment, became a natural and open relationship and, little by little, its protagonists stopped hiding . But, for the moment, they have not wanted to show their faces for the photo that closes the end of their courtship and the beginning of their stage as a married couple.
