François Boucq exhibits New York Cannibals at Huberty Breyne Paris

New York Cannibals de Boucq (Bouncer T11) and Charyn is one of the titles that will count in this fall 2020. A social, human, violent thriller, in New York which follows Little Tulip, the characters meet again, have aged but the accounts are still to be settled. On the occasion of the release of the album by Éditions du Lombard, the Galerie Huberty & Breyne presents a preview from September 4 until September 19, 2020, a selection of original boards by François Boucq in his Parisian gallery.

A throwback, six years after the bloody conclusion of their previous album Little Tulip which featured Pavel, a New York tattoo artist of Russian origin who had known the hell of the gulags under Stalin, the duo did it again with a new black and powerful album in which we find Pavel, on the superb drawing of François Boucq.

From pen to brush, François Boucq explores from album to album the many facets that drawing offers him. A virtuoso artist, his cinematographic line contorts reality, creates utopias, caricatures ineptitude and sublimates his stories. For Little Tulip and New York Cannibals whose chronicle will be published by Ligneclaire, Boucq shapes a hero who has drawing in his skin and life engraved on his body. Through the story of Pavel, tattoo artist from the Gulag who immigrated to the United States after Stalin’s death, François Boucq undertakes a subtle psychological abyss through tattooing. This representation allows him to approach through drawing several dimensions: aesthetic, biographical, clan or shamanic.

Boucq admits that tattooing has always interested him “Because it is a discipline that impresses me. It could serve as protective elements. Superstitions could be fixed through tattooing. In some societies, we continue to do “magic tattoos” like in New Zealand, for example. The tattoo comes under the totemization or spiritual upliftment of some people. ” With New York Cannibals, Boucq fully embraces this shamanic dimension of drawing. If the sets and characters come to life under deep black India ink, François Boucq chooses purple ink to trace the outlines of these body marks. A very high level exhibition which launches the release of this high level album in a good way.
