Since 2002 at the helm of federgolf

Born in Naples on 7 August 1939, Chimenti, long Full Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the “La Sapienza” University of Rome, where he later held the position of Dean, was a member of the New York Academy of Sciences. Academician of Medical Biological Sciences, Academician of the Noble Pharmaceutical Chemistry College, author of multiple manuscripts and communications published in international journals, from 1970 to 2000 he was President of the Dermocosmetic Research Institute. From 1981 to 1985 he held the position of Vice President of the Lazio Sports Society of which he became President in 1986. In 1996 he became Councilor of the Italian Golf Federation of which he was also appointed Vice President. Then, in 2002, he was elected President of the Italian Golf Federation for the first time and became part of the CONI National Council. Of which he became a member of the Board from 2004 to 2008 and from 2012 to 2021. On 19 February 2013 he was appointed Deputy Vice President of CONI, a position from which he resigned on 11 June 2013 to take up the role of President of CONI Servizi SpA On 20 December 2021 he received the Golden Collar for sporting merit – the highest honor awarded by CONI – crowning a long and great career as a manager at the service of sport. Thanks to his vision, he brought the Ryder Cup to Italy for the first time.

He brought the Ryder Cup to Italy

His great pride was the award of Ryder Cup a Roma. “In my life I have fought against every adversity with commitment and dedication and I have always done so with the utmost fairness. For me the Ryder Cup had become a source of personal pride and I began to work assiduously with my staff on the candidacy based on a great certainty: that hosting the largest golf event in the world would be Italy and Rome, with the weight of its great and inimitable history. We bet on Rome and with Rome we won, but I was very certain of it. Rome is the Eternal City, the cradle of civilization, no place in the world can compete in terms of charm, culture and tradition.”

He succeeded, earning general acclaim. After all, since he took the helm of the Italian Golf Federation (2002), he has come a long way. Thanks to his intuition, to a man who contributed decisively with his choices to definitively launching golf into a new dimension. Increase in membership, growth of countless talents, prestigious victories at an international level.
