In the latest edition on the “Meine Bayern” BILD podcast series, Franck Ribery said that he wants to return to Bayern Munich at a working capacity once he decides to hang up his playing boots for good (The). “After my career, I would like to work for Bavaria. When Bavaria has a place for me, let’s see what’s possible,” the French winger explained on the latest episode.
His contract with Fiorentina in Serie A expires at the end of this month and it’s been reported that there have been discussions regarding a potential contract extension. It’s unclear at this current juncture whether or not an extension will materialize, but what is clear is that Ribery still would like to play for a little while longer before hanging his boots up for good. Bayern fans have, of course, romanticized the idea of him returning to Bayern for one last season, but that doesn’t look like it’s anywhere in the cards at the moment. If he were to return to Bayern, it would be in some sort of working capacity after his playing career is officially over.
To Ribery’s credit, he’s still had a decent campaign with Fiorentina, scoring two goals and providing seven assists from a total of 30 appearances across all competitions. He would be completely deserving of a contract extension with the Serie A side, especially since his fitness has been remarkably good for someone pushing 38 years of age. His fortunes have been far better than “Robbery” partner from Bayern Arjen Robben, who’s really struggled with injury problems at FC Groningen in the Eredivisie. He only made a total of seven appearances for the Dutch side this past season.
What, exactly, Ribery could do if he comes to Bayern for some sort of working role isn’t known at this time but it’s safe to assume he could serve as an ambassador for the club on an official level or perhaps even get involved with the academy teams. He could also choose to pursue various managerial licenses.
