Franck Leroy leads economic collaboration between Grand Est and Quebec for the future

Grand Est-Québec, same fight. President of the Region, Franck Leroy returned at the end of May from a five-day mission through the “Belle Province”. Montreal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières: a succession of stages and meetings for the boss of the executive and a group of members of the consular and university chambers. Determined to officially kick off a process of close collaboration between the economy of the Grand Est, driven by its strengths or needs, and French-speaking North America, the Marnais defends the argument of an economic network with gateways, antennas and relays.

If the idea of favoring a structure at the interface between the interests of each is not new in itself, the accent is clearly placed on the economy of the future. In all its forms. With a clearly strategic focus from now on. “There are obvious complementarities in Quebec with our region and fairly natural avenues for cooperation,” assures Franck Leroy.

Sponsorship of the École de technologie supérieure in Montreal with that of Troyes (Aube), debates on quantum energy at the University of Sherbrooke, meetings with ministerial representatives or the Consulate accompanied the birth of a “Grand digital hub East Transformation” in Montreal.

He will have to ensure the connection of French and Quebec companies, in the “extension of the Quebec consortium in digital transformation and cybersecurity”.

“Foreign establishments still on the rise”

The delegation also made several stops within the facilities of Loop Industries, but also of the Drakkar company. The first, Quebec leader in the chemical recycling of PET (polyethylene terephthalate used for plastic bottles) will soon invest 450 million euros in Saint-Avold. The second is a specialist in digital transformation and cybersecurity. This Quebec group is committed to digital transformation and already established in the Grand Est. “We are opening a new path and an additional stage”, says Franck Leroy.

The latest national studies validate this conviction: “According to the EU barometer on the attractiveness of France 2022 and the Business France report on international investments in France, the Grand Est has a ratio of foreign investments higher than its weight in GDP. national. And foreign establishments are still on the rise compared to the already very positive previous years”.
