Francisco presided over the Rooster Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica: no control of vaccinated people | Chronicle

Hours before Christmas, the pope Francisco celebrated this Friday, December 24, the Rooster Mass, the first of the liturgical celebrations planned in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, with about 1,500 places for the faithful, distanced on the benches, but without obligation to be vaccinated against coronavirus disease.

It should be noted that St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican It has a capacity for 20,000 people, but significantly reduced the capacity allowed inside to cope with the new health situation caused by the Omicron variant.

But nevertheless, the obligation to present the certificate of vaccination against coronavirus, applied to those vaccinated or those who have recently had the disease, it is limited only to the workers of the dicasteries, bodies and offices of the Roman Curia and of the institutions linked to the Holy See, and to tourists who visit, for example, the Vatican Museums.

In this way, as provided in the new decree of the Secretary of State, signed by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, there is no obligation to this type for the faithful who attend the masses that are celebrated both in the Basilica of San Pedro and in the parish of Santa Anna, as well as the audiences presided over by the Pontiff on Wednesdays in the Paul VI hall.

At Mass this afternoon, in addition to the Pope the entire Papal Chapel participates, which adds up to 120 concelebrating priests, according to the new accreditation system that the liturgical office has launched on December 1 for priests and deacons.

Tomorrow, as usual, Francisco will deliver his Christmas message and will impart the Urbi et Orbi blessing at 12:00 on the traditional central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica.

The next celebration to be presided over by the Holy Father will be on Friday, December 31, at 5:00 p.m., with the First Vespers of the Solemnity of Mary Most Holy Mother of God and the Pope will recite the Te Deum in thanksgiving for the past year.

On January 1, Solemnity of Holy Mary, Mother of God, the Pope will preside over the mass at 10:00 on the occasion of the LV World Day of Peace.

At that same time, on January 6, the Mass of the Epiphany of the Lord will be celebrated, to which the entire Papal Chapel is once again summoned. It has not yet been specified whether there will be baptisms in the Sistine Chapel on the following Sunday as usual..
