Francisco Lindor hits his 30th home run of the season and extends his hitting streak to 14 games

New York- On his 29th birthday, David Peterson struck out a career-high 11 and Francisco Lindor drove in three runs as the New York Mets beat the Boston Red Sox 7-2 Tuesday for their sixth straight win.

Lindor hit his 30th homer of the season and added a key RBI double, generating new chants from the crowd at Citi Field calling for the Puerto Rican to be named Most Valuable Player.

This is the fifth time in his career that the Puerto Rican has hit 30 or more home runs in a season. He did it in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2023 and this year.

Pete Alonso and Mark Vientos also homered for New York, which remained a half-game behind Atlanta for the final playoff spot in the NL. New York has won 13 of its last 18 games.

Winds gave Justin Slaten a rude welcome with a homer leading off the seventh inning after Lindor’s two-run blast in the third was the Mets’ only hit off Kutter Crawford (18-13), who struck out eight in six innings.

Peterson (9-1) pitched six splendid innings, allowing one run. He improved his ERA to 2.75 and won his fourth straight decision.

For the Red Sox, Venezuelan Wilyer Abreu went 0-for-1. Mexican Jarren Duran went 1-for-3 with one run scored. Dominican Rafael Devers went 0-for-4.

For the Mets, Puerto Rican Lindor was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Dominican Starling Marte went 0-for-2. Cuban José Iglesias went 0-for-3. Venezuelan Francisco Álvarez went 1-for-3 with one run scored.
