At the inaugural session of the National Assembly of the Transition, on October 30, the president of this chamber of Parliament, Jean François Ndongou, announced the arrival, in the coming days, in Gabon, of the secretary general of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Martin Chungong, and the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF), Francis Drouin. These delegations will be in Libreville to inquire about the Transition roadmap and above all to find the best way to support its deployment.
Following the coup perpetrated by the defense and security forces which overthrew the Ali Bongo regime, Gabon is facing sanctions in principle imposed by certain international organizations. To better appreciate the situation relating to this coup d’état and evaluate the bodies set up by the Authorities of the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI) led by General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, the first leaders of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) are announced in the country.
Speaking to diplomats at the opening of this inaugural session of the National Assembly of the Transition, the president of the chamber, Jean François Ndongou, announced that the president of the APF, Francis Drouin, is expected in the capital Gabonese, next week. He even specifies that the latter, a deputy for the province of Ontario, in Canada, will be accompanied by a large delegation.
At the end of the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Luanda, Angola, from October 23 to 27, this organization granted and renewed its confidence in Gabon, maintaining the Gabonese parliament as a full member with all its members. rights. It is in this wake that the Secretary General of this structure, Martin Chungong, is expected in Gabon in the coming weeks. With these two organizations, the Gabonese authorities will certainly have to define a support plan leading to the restoration of constitutional order.
Faced with the diplomats, in fact, Jean François Ndongou wanted to be reassuring, congratulating them for “very responsible attitude» regarding the assessment made on the one hand, of the stated desire of the President of the Transition to reorganize the institutions with a view to promoting democracy, good governance and respect for human rights, and on the other hand of the scale of the consultations it is carrying out for an inclusive Transition. He thus added that the National Assembly of the Transition would endeavor to consider the findings and possible suggestions of diplomats as opinions likely to help Gabon build its new Republic.
