Francesco Bagnaia failed to penetrate Q2 in Practice MotoGP Valencia 2023. Jorge Martin He really wants to put pressure on Bagnaia in determining the world champion title.
Jorge Martin is still 21 points behind the Ducati rider. Thus, Martin faces a tough job in the last two races to beat Bagnaia.
The competition between Bagnaia and Jorge Martin has heated up since the Practice session. At the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, Friday (24/11), Martin continued to follow Bagnaia on and off the track.
The tactic worked anyway. Francesco Bagnaia finished the session in 15th position so had to play Q1. In the remaining time, Bagnaia was unable to correct his lap because the yellow flag was raised following Pol Espargaro’s accident. Meanwhile Jorge Martin will go straight to Q2 because he finished second behind Maverick Vinales.
Ducati boss Davide Tardozzi was very annoyed with Jorge Martin’s action against Bagnaia, even though he was defending the six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez. Martin himself admitted that he had to make things difficult for his opponents.
“Yeah, of course I accept it [atas hasil hari Jumat sebelum akhir pekan],” said Martinator to MotoGP.com. “It’s not that important, but at least he got into trouble.”
“I think it’s important to be close to my rival, trying to understand where he is fast, where we can improve. I saw that he struggled a little bit today. But, it’s just, for sure, we have to apply pressure somehow, and I think this is the way.”
“I was just trying to be close [dengan dia di akhir]. I don’t know if I’m even going to Q2. I was actually ready to go to Q1, for me it was no problem. However, in the end we were inside anyway [10 besar]. But you know, I didn’t really want to do it, but sometimes you need to do difficult things…” Jorge Martin added.
Jorge Martin’s competition with Francesco Bagnaia will be determined in the sprint race tonight (25/11) and the main race on Sunday (26/11) evening. However, beforehand the two racers will try to get a good starting position in the qualifying session this afternoon.
