Doha: While preparing for the World Cup final, multiple members of the French squad were reported to have contracted a fever. International media recently reported that defenders Raphael Varane and Ibrahima Konata are suffering from fever. Previously, midfielder Adrien Rabiot, defender Dalot Upamecano and forward Kingsley Coman were also infected with the virus.
All three lost their semifinal match against Morocco. In the absence of Upamecano, Konata started in defense with Varane. Both performed well. The fact that three of the main players in the defensive line are suffering from fever is a cause for concern for France. Measures including social distancing have been implemented in the camp in France to prevent the spread of the virus.
Air conditioning in stadiums, hotels and training facilities has been blamed by some for the spread of the virus. Previously, teams including Brazil were complaining of sore throats and coughs.
