Friday marked exactly thirty years since Kurt Cobain died. Frances (31), the daughter of the Nirvana singer, wrote a long message on Instagram about the lessons she learned from his death.
“Thirty years ago my father’s life ended,” she begins. Cobain was 27 years old when he died, Frances was a year and a half old at the time. “I wish I had known him. That I knew how he spoke, how he drank his coffee. That I knew what it felt like to be tucked in by him after a bedtime story.”
Now the artist only has photos to fall back on. And a letter that her father wrote when she was born. “The last sentence is: wherever you go, wherever I go, I will always be with you. And he keeps that promise, because he is still present in so many ways. In music, in my hands that look so much like his. In those short moments I can still spend a little time with my father.”
She hopes her message will especially reach people who struggle with the same feelings. With those left behind. “This is for anyone who wonders what it would be like, living with the people they lost. I’m thinking of you today. We share the same grief.”(dewo)
