France will “considerably” reinforce security measures for the match they will play tomorrow Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and the Barcelona after the threats of Islamic State of attacking the Champions Leagueannounced today the Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin.
In a statement to the press, Darmanin pointed out that there has been “a threat made public by the Islamic State”, which is why he has asked the Police Prefecture to “reinforce security measures considerably”, although he did not detail what the booster.
The Islamic State (known in Arab countries as Daesh) has published a video in which he threatens to attack the stadiums in which the first leg matches of the Champions League quarterfinals are being played today, Tuesday and tomorrow: Parc des Princes in Paris, Emirates Stadium in London, Wanda Metropolitano and Santiago Bernabéu, both in Madrid.
In tomorrow’s match in the French capital, local authorities expect around 2,000 Barcelona fans, although they estimate that the match entails “little risk of incidents”, placing it at level 2 on a scale of 5 (maximum risk).
“This is not something new (threats from Daesh), but it is true that the Champions League is an important moment in football”explained the minister, who indicated that the French Government has shared the information it has with the other countries hosting Champions League matches this week (United Kingdom y Spain).
«The DGSI (French secret services) is prepared, although I am not going to give details of this»Darmanin added.
For his part, the PSG coach, the Spanish Luis Enriquewas asked about the terrorist threat at the press conference prior to tomorrow’s game.
«Who is not affected by that threat? (…) I hope it doesn’t end in something disastrous, of course it’s worrying.”, assumed the technician. EFE (I)
