Government French predict they will experience a spike in the number of patients in fourth wave coronavirus infection (Covid-19) the Delta variant which is expected to occur at the end of July.
“The situation in the UK suggests there may be a new wave at the end of July,” France’s Health Minister, Olivier Veran, wrote on Twitter. AFP, Tuesday (6/7).
A number of countries in Europe, namely the UK and Russia, experienced a spike in cases of Covid-19 infection, which was allegedly caused by the spread of the Delta variant. The mutated coronavirus was first recognized in India.
Currently the vaccination program in France is also running slowly despite their sufficient supply. It is feared that this will trigger a spike in Covid-19 cases.
According to French government data, an average of about 100 thousand new residents there are 21 people who are vaccinated. Although it is still far from the target of 50 percent of the population, this number has increased by 10 percent from last week.
Until now, only 36 percent of the population in France have undergone two injections of the corona vaccine.
“In recent weeks the outbreak has intensified. We have seen a rapid spike in cases in the UK,” said French government spokesman Gabriel Attal in an interview with French radio station Inter Radio.
According to data from the French Ministry of Health at the end of last week there were 2,600 new cases of infection in one day. This number is still far from the third wave of infection in April, which reached 35,000 people in one day.
To tackle the spike in cases, the French Prime Minister, Jean Castex, said he would hold a meeting with local government representatives to intensify the vaccination program for health workers and retirees.
According to the French Hospital Federation, the current vaccination rate for health workers is stuck at 64 percent, because many also doubt the vaccine’s safety.
