France Vigilant: Highest Level of Alert Declared for Terrorist Threat

France has declared the highest level of alert for a terrorist threat. Tensions are rising in the country after yesterday’s knife attack at a school outside the French city of Arras, which killed a teacher and seriously injured two others.

Unsurprisingly, tensions in France have been rising over the past week, especially after the attacks on Israel. On Friday, a 20-year-old former pupil stabbed and killed a teacher in Arras. France has the largest Jewish and Muslim communities in Europe. These are over 600,000 people – both Jews and Muslims.

Arrests and deportations of people from the country all week preceded the attack at the Arras school. 8 people were detained in connection with it, including the attacker, who was initially claimed to be of Chechen origin. Later it became clear that he was born in Ingushetia, as well as members of his family, conveyed NOVA.

On this occasion, France decided to declare the highest level of threat of a terrorist act in the country. An additional 7,000 Special Forces soldiers have been deployed until further notice to maintain security. Additional gendarmerie and police were mobilized to guard 500 Jewish sites such as schools, synagogues and cultural centers across France.
