Cafes, restaurants, places of leisure, “non essential” shops closed from midnight this Saturday March 15, limitation of travel and family and friendly gatherings, new recommendation to choose teleworking, this is what was announced by the Prime Minister in response to the accelerated spread of the virus. But also, according to the government, the non-respect by many of the prevention instructions and in particular of the famous “barrier gestures” supposed to limit contact between people.
France currently has nearly 4,500 cases of Covid-19 including several hundred serious cases, a figure that has more than doubled in the last three days.
The Prime Minister and after him the Director General of Health, Jérôme Salomon who declared that France was “at stage 3 of the epidemic”, recalled the necessary precautions to be taken in the face of a health situation which is in danger of deteriorating quickly in the days to come. This raises the question of the capacity of the French hospital system to manage this crisis. Martin Hirsch, director general of the AP-HP, declared Friday to the newspaper Le Monde that the establishments were “ready” but that “it would be a lie to say that we are tackling this epidemic in the best conditions”.
Stay at home from the first symptoms
The regions most affected at this stage of the epidemic are Grand-Est, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Hauts-de-France and Ile de France.
Those who feel the symptoms of the disease were again invited to adopt a very supervised behavior: stay at home from the first symptoms, impose the same confinement on all the members of the family living under the same roof and consult their doctor by telephone. or teleconsultation, avoid self-medication (it was recalled that taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen could worsen the condition of the patients) and contact the SAMU by dialing 15 only in case the appearance of breathing difficulties.
