/ world today news/ Something strange is happening in France: on December 19, in just one day, both houses of parliament adopted one of the most important laws in their recent history, which seriously tightens migration rules. The news is essentially epoch-making, because previously the rights of migrants were sacrosanct and many laws did not come into force for many years, and now one of the most severe was passed in just three hours.
Most curiously, on December 11, a similar project was rejected in parliament by almost all parties, and the chances of tightening the rules already seemed slim. At the same time, the main complaints were voiced by the right-wing parties, who directly stated that if the bill did not become stricter, they would never support it.
As a result, the parliamentary conciliation committee took into account almost all the comments of the right, and the government (as well as Macron himself) was forced to enter into an alliance with the party of the legendary Marine Le Pen in order to approve the law.
The left, of course, voted against it and, after the law was passed, declared it shameful, and former President Hollande even declared the defeat of the Republic. Marine Le Pen, as well as the leadership of her party, on the contrary, rejoiced, saying that the adopted law is an ideological victory, because it now consolidates the national priority, i.e. advantage of the French over foreigners.
What are the main provisions and rules of the new law:
– it becomes more and more difficult for children of migrants to obtain citizenship, as well as the very process of family reunification;
– the options for deprivation of citizenship have been expanded;
– residence permit will not be given to people with a criminal record;
– the rules for the stay of migrants wishing to receive an education have been tightened (a deposit has been introduced, etc.);
– migration quotas are introduced;
– criminal liability for illegal stay in the country was introduced and deportation was simplified;
– access to social support measures etc. is limited.
By the way, it was this measure of social benefits that caused a heated discussion, and as a result, in order to gain access to a number of important support measures, non-working migrants must already have lived in the country for at least 5 years (or at least 2.5 years if they have an employment contract).
The new law is very extensive, so it is impossible to outline all its provisions, especially since a number of them do not come into force immediately and can still be updated.
But this is not even the main thing, because taking strict measures in itself will not immediately solve the problem of migration in France, because they have accumulated over the years and now often take a threatening turn (for example, the summer pogroms in Paris, etc.).
At the same time, instead of taking timely and adequate measures, the topic was essentially hushed up and swept “under the carpet”, as a result of which urgent decisions must now be taken.
At the same time, this problem is important not only for France, but also for other European countries, the USA, etc. This also applies to Russia, where the same Sledkom talks about the need for a systematic fight against migrant crime.
In addition, there is also an increase in the number of migrants: in particular, at a press conference on December 14, the president said that there are already more than 10 million of them in the country, and the problem is not easy and simple to solve.
In this regard, the current problems in France are a telling example and speak to the need to take timely measures, otherwise only emergency measures (which have actually already been passed in the French Parliament) can help, and years later.
