Apple has to put out the problem in France, the authority there doesn’t like the amount of radiation from this phone
The French minister is threatening to have the phone pulled from the market, along with newer models
The manufacturer counters that, according to available studies, the SAR value of the iPhone 12 is fine
Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California may be in the mood to celebrate, yesterday’s iPhone Keynote event was once again full of promising innovations. But on the other side of the world, in Europe, there are protests against iPhones. The iPhone 12 may very likely be recalled in France.
France threatens to ban iPhone 12
The French National Agency for Frequencies (ANFR) issued on Tuesday warning, according to which the 2020 iPhone emits too many electromagnetic waves, exceeding the specified SAR limits to the point where it can be dangerous for its users and their surroundings. ANFR proposes to withdraw the product from the market.
Daily The Parisian he subsequently quoted Digital Affairs and Telecommunications Minister Jean-Noël Barrot as giving Apple an ultimatum. Either they will resolve the situation within two weeks, supposedly it should be in the form of a software update, or all available iPhone 12 units will be immediately withdrawn from the market.
Don’t overlook
Apple has made its mark in France. It will no longer bundle headphones with iPhones
Barrot also threatens Apple that the ban on sales could be applied to all iPhone model lines if the call is not obeyed. It would also jeopardize the start of sales of the new iPhone 15, which is scheduled for next Friday, September 22. According to the minister, it cannot be ruled out that the possible ban will be extended to other countries of the European Union (EU).
Apple: Everything is fine
British station BBC reached out to Apple for comment. He seems to be questioning the results of the ANFR measurements, instead he offered his own laboratory results, but also independent results from third parties, which deny the danger. In addition, according to Apple, the iPhone 12 meets radiation conditions worldwide since its launch in September 2020.
The American Apple no longer officially sells the iPhone 12 in France, it was removed from its e-shop just yesterday after the presentation of the iPhone 15. In addition to the iPhone 12, it is no longer possible to officially get the iPhone 13 mini either. The same situation prevails, for example, in the Czech Republic, but these run-of-the-mill iPhones are still relatively widely offered by electronics retailers.
