“In many French cities, this May Day was a moment of responsible mobilization and determination. Scenes of violence during demonstrations are all the more unacceptable,” the prime minister wrote on Twitter.
Some 782,000 people protested across France, including 112,000 in Paris alone, the interior ministry said. The CGT union said 2.3 million protesters took to the streets across France, including 550,000 in the capital.
The activity of people was significantly higher than on May 1 last year, but smaller than in the biggest protests against the pension reform this year.

In Paris, radical protesters pelted police with various objects and smashed the windows of businesses, including banks and real estate agents, but security forces responded with tear gas and water cannons.
In Toulouse and Nantes, police fired tear gas at protesters.
As reported, workers and activists in many parts of the world are celebrating the May 1 Labor Day on Monday with rallies calling for increased wages, reduced working hours and improved working conditions.
