Short flights are prohibited in France
From now on, flights will be prohibited on routes that can be reached by train in less than two and a half hours.
Airlines, however, believe that this step will not make a significant contribution to the fight against climate change.
The new French law will mostly affect flights between Paris and cities such as Bordeaux or Lyon. Connecting flights will still be possible.
Also, the law provides that the train traffic on these routes must be sufficiently intensive and well connected so that the railway can accommodate the increase in passenger flow.
Airlines oppose the new rule and have asked the European Commission to evaluate its legality.
