Paris –
Authority French predicts a spike in COVID-19 cases at the end of July 2021. The spike is thought to be due to the spread of varian Delta originating from India.
“Over the past week the epidemic has increased again,” French spokesman Gabriel Attal told France Inter radio on Tuesday (6/7/2021).
It is known, the Delta variant accounts for 30 percent of the total new cases in the Eiffel Tower country. The fourth wave of COVID-19 is predicted to occur at the end of this month.
Several countries in Europe, such as the UK and Russia, have been affected by the Delta variant. The surge in COVID-19 cases occurred in the two developed countries in the past few days.
Attal assessed that the COVID-19 vaccination in France did not cover society as a whole. This, explained Attal, is very possible for a spike in cases.
“We have seen in the UK an explosion (of cases) that is happening very quickly, and we are seeing signs of this in our country,” Attal said.
French health authorities reported nearly 2,600 new cases on Sunday (4/7). However, this figure is still far lower than France’s daily record of 35,000 cases per day in April.
Currently, only 36 percent of French citizens have been vaccinated COVID-19 with 2 doses. The French government is considered to have ruled out vaccination so that the results are not optimal.
French Prime Minister Jean Castex will meet with local officials as well as party leaders in parliament this week to discuss the need for vaccines for health care workers and nursing home staff.
The French Federation of Hospitals (FHF) said the vaccination rate had stagnated at 64 percent for health workers. Some health workers even doubt the safety of vaccination.
