France plans to provide Covid-19 vaccines free of charge; Mass testing will begin in Slovenia – Worldwide

Once the Covid-19 vaccines are approved, the French government plans to make the vaccine available to all citizens free of charge, French Prime Minister Jean-Claude said on Thursday.

Kastex said it would first vaccinate about a million people who are at particularly high risk of contracting the new coronavirus, including residents of nursing homes. Their vaccination is scheduled to begin in January.

Starting in February, it is planned to vaccinate another 14 million people who are at increased risk of infection, but to vaccinate others in the spring.

Castex said that thanks to vaccine orders already placed at European level, France will have around 200 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine, which will allow 100 million people to be vaccinated. One person will need two doses of the vaccine.

The Prime Minister revealed that the vaccination campaign could start as early as the end of December, if the European Union (EU) and French authorities approve the vaccines.

The government’s vaccination campaign will be presented to parliament this month, Kastex said, stressing that all decisions in this regard will be transparent.

In France, the new coronavir has already killed more than 53,000 people.

Massive testing of the new coronavir will begin in Slovenia this month, as restrictions to contain the pandemic have not had the desired effect, the government said on Thursday.

The nationwide testing program will begin on December 11 or 12, when the first 100,000 test kits are expected, Health Minister Tomažs Gantars said at a press conference. He added that the government plans to buy a total of one and a half million antigen tests.

Health and care home workers are already being tested, but the government plans to expand the range of people being tested to include important workers such as teachers, soldiers and police officers.

By the end of the year, tests that will show results in a few minutes will be offered to all citizens who apply for them, Gantar said.

“Everyday [jauno Covid-19] due to the large number of cases, we can not track all contacts, so mass testing makes sense, “explained the Minister.

He also announced that the Covid-19 quarantine measures, which are in force from mid-November, will be extended for at least another week. “I was hoping for better results,” the minister said.

In November, public transport was suspended in Slovenia and almost all gatherings were banned. The country has closed schools, as well as small shops and service points.
