A study analyzing monkeypox outbreaks revealed the fact that about 95 percent of the disease is transmitted through sexual contact.
In The New England Journal of Medicine published on July 21, 2022, it was stated that of the 528 cases of monkeypox or monkeypox diagnosed between April 27 and June 27, 2022 in 16 countries, about 98 percent occurred in gay or bisexual men.
Then, another result found that the average age of those infected was about 38 years and 75 percent were white.
Other data revealed in this study is that about 41 percent are people with HIV infection who are on average well controlled.
Then, in this study it was stated that about 95 percent of monkeypox cases were suspected to be through sexual intercourse.
“Transmission is thought to occur through sexual contact in 95 percent of infected people,” the journal wrote.
However, researchers say that monkeypox is not only transmitted through sexual contact. But it can also be through close physical contact.
“It is important to emphasize that monkeypox is not a sexually transmitted infection. It can be contracted from any type of close contact,” said study co-author John Thornhill.
