La Baule – At the Forêt residence, residents knitted hats and blankets for Cameroonian babies. An action carried out in conjunction with the Baobab 44 association.
“It’s a beautiful action, useful and at the service of babies in need. It’s sad to know they have nothing to wear to stay warm,” said Paulette, Marie-Denise, Lilianne and the other residents of the Ehpad de la Forêt in La Baule-Les-Pins, as part of the from André Nyamsi, founding president of the Baobab 44 association, which has been helping children in the South-West region of Cameroon since 2015.
Develop social connections
On the afternoon program organized by Stéphane Moreau, facilitator at the Baulois nursing home, in conjunction with the Baobab 44 association, the creation of knitwear, scarves or small blankets for newborns or premature babies present in Cameroonian hospitals and maternity wards.
“A long-term action, which began in June and which will culminate in the summer of 2024, all of the productions being transmitted for distribution through our association,” declared the president of Baobab 44.
For the eighteen residents involved in the action, “apart from the pleasure of making small pieces of knitting, there is added a dimension of social bond between the knitters and the pleasure of being involved in a charitable action”, declared Stéphane Moreau, who added: “it is an excellent pretext to animate and develop social bonds”.
The team of knitters “works on wool and with needles brought by residents’ families or through donations which are always welcome,” continues Stéphane Moreau.
André Nyamsi and his association Baobab 44 carry out various other charitable actions in Cameroon.
Sneaker collection
A key example was the collection of sneakers during the Orvault half-marathon, the Paris marathon and during the Audencia de la Baule international triathlon. “These sneakers will be distributed in middle and high schools or institutions in Cameroon. The association was able to collect more than 500 pairs of sneakers. »
In addition to the sneakers, medical consumables were collected from partners such as the CHU Nord in Nantes and sent to the general hospital in Buea, in the southwest of Cameroon.
