France national team faces Morocco in 2022 World Cup semi-finals, Didier Deschamps haunted by defending champion’s curse: Okezone Bola

National team France faces Morocco in the semifinals World Cup 2022, Didier Deschamps is haunted by the reigning champion’s curse. Les Bleus – nickname French National – beat England 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

France took the lead in the 17th minute at Al Bayt Stadium, Sunday (12/11/2022) early morning WIB. England had equalised, Olivier Giroud’s 78th-minute header restored France’s lead.

Meanwhile, Kane scored a goal for England in the 54th minute with a white point. This result also allowed the French national team to reach the semifinals again, for two consecutive editions of the World Cup.

Not only that, France also has the opportunity to repeat the goal of becoming world champion. As reigning champions, they can make history if they win back-to-back World Cups.

However, Deschamps doesn’t want to be too hasty. He doesn’t want to think too much about the possibility of presenting the 2022 World Cup, before defeating the Moroccan national team.

“We’re already halfway there, but we won’t think about it until the end. We’re getting close, but the next stage will be very important for us to keep believing,” Deschamps said as quoted by Get Football French News.

Deschamps is worried about the reigning champion’s curse that occurred in the last editions of the World Cup. Previously, many holders failed to qualify from the group stage, such as Italy (2010), Spain (2014) and Germany (2018).

French National managed to break the curse, going on to advance to the semi-finals. However, Deschamps believes the curse isn’t necessarily over, until he finally manages to become world champion again.

England national team against French national team

“To win the title we have to overcome the Moroccan national team. We are happy with this result, but still not satisfied. The story for the reigning champions has been pretty bad so far. We will be satisfied if we can break this trend,” he said.

The semi-final against Morocco itself will be held at Al Bayt Stadium, Thursday 15 December 2022 at morning WIB. France are obviously the favourites, but Morocco have created a tremendous surprise by sending away Belgium, Spain and Portugal.
