We are a mobile team. The unit operates within the Lorraine organ procurement network which brings together the four authorized “organs and tissues” establishments (PRELOR). In addition to the CHRU of Nancy, the hospitals of Verdun, Épinal and Metz-Thionville are associated with it. »
Is France still experiencing a shortage of organs?
“The waiting list of recipients is still staggering. We have nearly 27,000 patients waiting for organs. In Lorraine, the Nancy nephrology department has currently registered more than 550 patients awaiting a kidney transplant. In 2021, we know from the Biomedicine Agency that there were 5,200 transplants in France. The delta between transplant recipients and waiting patients is enormous. There is a lot of work to do. »
