France Issues International Arrest Warrant for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for Chemical Attacks

France has issued an international arrest warrant for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who is accused of chemical attacks in 2013.

Details: According to the agency’s interlocutors, Assad is also suspected of complicity in war crimes near Damascus in August 2013, which led to the death of more than 1,400 people.

International arrest warrants have also been issued for the brother of Syrian leader Maher Assad, who actually heads the elite Syrian military unit, as well as two generals of the armed forces.

The investigation was launched following a lawsuit filed by the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM), the Open Society Justice Initiative (OSJI) and the Syrian Archive.
