France-Israel, tension and brawl between fans in the stands in Paris

Few spectators at the Stade de France in a Paris under lockdown for the football match between France and Israel. There was, however, a hint of a fight between French and Israeli fans in the north curve, above the French Irrésistibles. Several people carrying Israeli flags took part in the brawl, with supporters chanting ‘Release the hostages’. A double cordon of stewards was then set up to separate the two groups. Earlier, some boos were heard when the Israeli starting eleven was announced and when the Israeli national anthem was played.

4000 policemen deployed outside and inside the plant

Around 4,000 police and security personnel were deployed in and around the Stade de France, with a further 1,500 police on public transport. Several buses carrying Israeli fans arrived under police escort and some were waving flags inside the stadium. Fewer than 20,000 of 80,000 tickets were sold, with around 150 Israeli supporters in attendance. Authorities in Paris are on high alert following violent clashes in Amsterdam before and after a Europa League match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Before the race demonstration for Palestine

A couple of hours before the match, a pro-Palestine demonstration attracted several hundred people to a square in Saint-Denis to protest against the holding of the match. No accidents were reported.
