The French Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Mairewas in favor this Wednesday of “accelerating” the creation of a minimum global tax on the rich to avoid “tax optimization” strategies.
“We are fully committed to accelerating the process to establish on an international scale (…) a minimum tax on individuals to combat any type of tax optimization”said the minister in statements to the press in São Paulo.
Le Maire, who is in the Brazilian city to attend a meeting of Economy Ministers of the G20aligned itself on this issue with Brazil, which holds the temporary presidency of this group of countries and also supports the measure.
The minister considered that much progress has already been made towards a “more efficient and fair” international tax system, after more than a hundred countries agreed last year to impose a minimum tax on the profits of multinationals.
FranceLe Maire recalled, approved at the end of 2023 the law that establishes the new corporate rate, with which the Government hopes to raise 1.5 billion euros each year.
The meeting of G20 Economy Ministers takes place between this Wednesday and Thursday at the São Paulo Biennial Pavilion, Brazil’s financial center. EFE (I)
