Twenty-four hours after the vote of no confidence in the French National Assembly that brought down the Barnier government, French President Emmanuel Macron is addressing the French people.
The French president said he would not resign, despite pressure from the opposition.

“My responsibility is to ensure the continuity of the state, the proper functioning of our institutions, the independence of our country and the protection of all of you,” he added, amid growing calls for his resignation following a vote of no confidence in the Barnier government.
While the Elysee Palace assured that the president will not announce the name of his new prime minister tonight or tomorrow morning, Mr. Macron announced that he would nominate him “in the coming days”. “I will entrust him to form a government of general interest that will represent all the political forces of a government arc that can participate in it or, at least, that undertake not to censor it,” he added.
According to AFP, French President Emmanuel Macron will not announce the name of the next prime minister tonight.
