Ultimately, Macron got to the strategy he does embrace: a new lockdown. But no longer in the same drastic way as during the first corona wave. The French economy as a whole must continue to run. Non-essential shops, bars and restaurants will close, working from home will become the norm, but schools – apart from universities – and businesses will remain open. Visits to care centers must remain possible.
The French will be allowed to leave their home only to go to work, visit the doctor, run errands, or get some fresh air. But private gatherings and public events are strictly prohibited. The measures will take effect on Friday and will be valid until at least the beginning of December. They are evaluated every two weeks and adjusted if necessary.
