The Public Health Agency indicated on its website that 116 patients died in hospitals within 24 hours, since deaths outside the hospital are not included in these records every day of the week. The death toll since the start of the pandemic has risen to 65,037.
In relation to cases of infection, since registration began in February, there have been 2,655,728 in France.
In the last seven days, 7,460 people were hospitalized and 1,135 were admitted to intensive care units.
The French government, which has been criticized for the slow start of the vaccination campaign, has decided to speed up the process, expanding the groups that will be vaccinated as a priority.
According to the French Secretary of State for Transport, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, “the goal is to vaccinate 26 million French people by summer”.
It is apparently a much more ambitious target than the one that had been set just a week ago by the French Prime Minister, Jean Castex, by announcing 15 million vaccinees before the summer.
