France recorded an additional 243 deaths associated with covid-19 in the last 24 hours, with the total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic above 26,000, according to the French Directorate-General for Health.
According to the data presented, the total number of deaths caused by the new coronavirus in France now totals 26,230, of which 16,497 occurred in hospitals and 9,733 in homes.
France is thus the fifth most affected country in the world, just behind the United States of America (75,670 dead), the United Kingdom (31,241), Italy (30,201), and Spain (26,299).
There are still 22,724 people hospitalized due to covid-19 and 2,868 of these are in intensive care units.
Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already caused some 269,000 deaths and infected more than 3.8 million people in 195 countries and territories.
