A 76-year-old man, the theater director Alain Franon, is between life and death after being stabbed in the throat in the center of Montpellier and found near the Saint-Roch church, around 11:30 this morning. It is not yet clear whether this is a terrorist attack or not. The attacker escaped but the police are looking for him on the basis of a identikit built thanks to some witnesses. The knife has been recovered and forensics are doing DNA measurements on the weapon and in the streets around the church. Traces of blood were found on the walls of several streets around the church, as if the man had walked for a long time, injured, before he passed out. He may therefore have been attacked in a different place than where he was rescued. Alain Franon is located in Montpellier, in the South of France, from February 15, where until March 20 he was to work with the students of the Dramatic High School on an adaptation of Still Storm by Peter Handke. According to the local newspaper Metropolitain Franon is staying in a hotel in the historic center, not far from the place where he was found, slumped to the ground. His condition immediately appeared serious because the knife has affected the carotid artery.
