PARIS – Government French denied covering up radiation levels in the Pacific after its nuclear test in the region, when discussions over the test’s “legacy” took place in Paris.

The two-day meeting convened by French President Emmanuel Macron began on Thursday following new allegations that testing from 1966 to 1996 caused hidden atmospheric and ground radiation.

“Nothing is covered up by the state,” Genevieve Darrieusseq, the junior defense minister, told AFP in brief comments on the sidelines of the event, in which he ruled out an official French apology. France24, Saturday (3/7/2021).

In March, investigative website Discclose sparked a “wave” when it said it had analyzed some 2,000 pages of undisclosed French military documents about nearly 200 tests conducted around French Polynesia in the Pacific region.

Working with statisticians and academics from Princeton University in the United States (USA), it was concluded that the French authorities had hidden the true impact of nuclear test on the health of Polynesians for more than 50 years.
